Traveling during Covid & Why you should just say yes

The constant tatter of our work, the news or chores slowly take bits of our spirit away from us day after day, until we are so tired we simply don’t want to do anything. We even say it to our friends and family, “I just want to relax and do nothing.”

This is your call, that you need a reset. Check-out time. A refreshing break from your scheduled routine life. All you really need is a change in perspective, often.

Even if you don’t have the budget, make one. It is a necessity, just like your tab at Starbucks because we all just need coffee to operate no matter the cost. But seriously, an experience has more intrinsic value than one of your many subscriptions or your gym membership you don't even go to.

Where To Start

Start simple, start small. If traveling intimidates you, start with what you’re comfortable with. If that’s scrolling through pictures for a week of all the different areas or sights in a chosen location, do it. Take the risk.

This past year, or in the times of the pandemic, I chose to travel more. A lot more. Because I needed it. I needed to be able to find peace and quiet, and that for me was found in nature and on the open road. The reward has been something I could never obtain again. Yes, it is a risk I choose to take and I encourage you to as well. Like any trip though, traveling during covid is a dynamic love hate relationship. Some trips have turned into logistical nightmares with planes, buses or public transport not operating normally, but in the end it's the same as any trip, a roll of the dice. On the flip side, I have reveled over the other perks like getting a whole isle on the plane to myself, or not having crazy tourist crowds at scenic sights. But the true gem has been the covid travel DEALS.

Traveling during covid has opened up a world of travel opportunities that would normally be out of reach for travelers like myself, on a budget. Since the tourism industry is struggling, the businesses themselves are all about brining you back at a can’t say no offer.

The tourism industry, personal business and mom and pop shops all feel the lack of stimulation into the local economies. I have heard businesses in the Caribbean, Mexico, Central America, and even the US, explain that they want travelers to come back. They need the movement of people being allowed to travel and explore again.

I have heard and seen the job market in tourist spots suffering from the lack of employees, most of whom were normally expats. Travelers away from home working tourist and service jobs in another country. All those boat tours or excursions you take, well they aren't operating 100% because they don't have the staffing.

As the world starts to open back up, and the movement of people is allowed again, we need to get out there. Give yourself some much needed change and a reset. We can’t let life consume us so much that we can’t enjoy ourselves doing what we like or what makes us happy.

So get outside, smell some flowers and go explore somewhere new. Go scroll for hours on Pinterest at dream vacation spots, or make a Google List of all the National Parks you want to see and plan a budget road trip, or just go walk outside. Again it can be simple, a change in perspective is all you need, have I seen this before?

Take the risk, the journey is worth it.

PS, I am excited to share more travel information through this blog so stay tuned! I am working on some travel tips like how I plan a trip, some itineraries for certain countries and of course stories about the good and the ugly sides of traveling.
